Litecoin (LTC or ) is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open-source software project that is licensed under the MIT/X11 authorization. Starting in October 2011, Litecoin was an early bitcoin spinoff or altcoin. Litecoin is almost similar to Bitcoin in terms of technical specifications.


Litecoin’s overall value increased dramatically in November 2013, including a 100 percent increase in just 24 hours.
Litecoin was the first of the top five (by market cap) cryptocurrencies to adopt Segregated Witness in May 2017. In May of that year, the first Lightning Network transaction using Litecoin was completed, moving 0.00000001 LTC from Zürich to San Francisco in under one second.
